The Magic Mountain – Reading group

The Magic Mountain, by Thomas Mann, is considered one of the greatest novels of the Twentieth Century. It tells the story of seven defining years leading up to World War I, experienced by a young German engineer in a tuberculosis sanitarium atop a Swiss mountain. The FRIEDAcommunity group will meet for an hour and a half on alternate Wednesdays.
The leader of this group is Bob Uris.

Bob Uris is retired after a long career, first as a journalist and public relations
person and for many years as a hospital administrator, in New York, Boston and
Philadelphia. He has an undergraduate degree in English from Cornell University and
a master’s degree in health management from Cornell’s business school. Bob has
always been interested in literature and is a special fan of Thomas Mann. He has read
The Magic Mountain several times.
