Please join us for this event launching Lauren Hilger’s poetry collection, Morality Play, with multidisciplinary readings and performances from Hannah Beresford, Marcus Jade, and Tony Y. Fu.
Hannah Beresford, originally of the Helderberg Escarpment of upstate New York, earned her MFA from New York University after spending four years on red dirt at Oklahoma State. Her poems are published in The Adroit Journal, Mid-American Review, Sycamore Review, Pleiades, among others. She is the recipient of a 2019 Poetry Foundation, Poetry Incubator fellowship, a 2017-2018 fellowship at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, and is a Teaching Artist Project, social justice-based pedagogy, arts in education graduate. She serves as a poetry editor for No Tokens, a freelance editor in all genres, and has taught poetry and creative writing at NYU, Drew University, and the College of Charleston.
Lauren Hilger is the author of Lady Be Good (CCM, 2016) and Morality Play (Poetry NW Editions, Summer 2022). She serves as a poetry editor for No Tokens.
Marcus Jade is a blues musician, songwriter, and poet. Born in Indiana, he cut his teeth on Nirvana records and began learning guitar at age 14. Around that time, he was also drawn into Indianapolis’s eclectic DIY art and music scene, frequenting house shows and underground venues. His appreciation of a wide variety of music allowed him to gather inspiration from many genres, such as Hip Hop, Metal and Punk, before settling into his own unique style of ragged, heart-wrenching blues-folk. Since moving to New York City, he zeroed in on his love for blues music, and began writing and performing as a solo act and regular presence in the Brooklyn DIY music scene.
Tony Y. Fu is trying. They show up occasionally at Bloomberg News, No Tokens, Quarto, and other public readings such as this one. Their on-going art project, “sad👏lunch👏day,” is exhibited on the Instagram account, @sadlunchday. Their second essay collection, Super White Quartzite, is forthcoming but probably not this year. They live in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn and drove here, if anyone needs a ride back to the city afterward.
