Yassi Deylami builds worlds meant to be inhabited. Trained as an architect, she approaches art as a spatial practice, using geometry and structural logic to create inner landscapes where shadow selves emerge. Shaped by growing up between Tehran, Iran and Sydney, Australia, her portraits of “Rooms for the Unconscious” reflect experiences of displacement, cultural duality, and belonging.

Through charcoal, pastel, and printmaking, Yassi allows forms and creatures to surface intuitively. What once appeared as demons reveal themselves as exiled parts seeking recognition and home. Her immersive works draw viewers into threshold spaces that house the unconscious, inviting self-reflection and vulnerability. In a digital age of surfaces and distraction, Yassi’s work offers a turn inward — toward shared human truths and the desire to feel whole.

Yassi’s work has been exhibited widely at venues including the New York Academy of Arts, the New York Academy of Arts and Sotheby’s, Dumbo Open Studios, and Powerhouse Arts. In addition, her work was selected for the “Myths and Legends of the World” show at the International Fine Arts College in Miami for their global juried exhibition. She was also named the Printshop Awardee at the Elizabeth Foundation of the Arts, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. Yassi is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
