FRIEDA began to present spoken words’ events six years ago. We had the space, a microphone, and a vital supportive community…all of which we offered to writers.
Carrying on an ancient tradition of oral poetry reading, spoken word combines performance, word play, and inflection. The interaction between artist and audience is an important part of the creative process and is one which FRIEDAcommunity continues to nurture.
Anthony Latess earned a Master of Education Degree from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and is a K-12 Art Educator. He has certifications as a Special Needs Teacher, Early Childhood Teacher and has also taught as a middle school Computer Literacy teacher. He taught at the University level as an adjunct instructor at The University of the Arts in the Professional Institute for Educators in Philadelphia. Anthony worked at Apple, Inc. as a Creative Specialist. Anthony is an artist and poet. He creates art work using photography and writes poetry inspired by personal experiences.

Victoria Mier is a queer, disabled writer and suspected changeling. She lives and writes in Philadelphia. Her writing is rooted in her lifelong obsession with folklore & fantasy. In Victoria’s work, you’ll find strange doors, spilled cups of tea, star-crossed souls, and gloomy train stations. You can read her writing in Del Sol SFF Review, Fifth Wheel Press, Vulnerary Magazine, SORTES Magazine and Luna Luna Magazine. Her debut novel, Beyond the Aching Door, will be released in early 2024.

Erin Moran is the Philadelphia-based author of two micro-chapbooks: I Hate To Count the Things That Save My Life (APEP Publications, 2020) and back braces (Ghost City Press). Her poems and stories have also appeared in Sword & Kettle Press, Sea Foam Mag, and Half Mystic. She loves stories about witches, postcards, and her cat, Gelatoni.

Topaz Winters is the Singaporean-American author of So, Stranger (Button Poetry 2022), Portrait of My Body as a Crime I’m Still Committing (2019), & poems for the sound of the sky before thunder (Math Paper Press 2017). She serves as editor-in-chief of Half Mystic Press, an independent, international, & interdisciplinary publishing project, & as co-editor of Kopi Break, a journal of new Singapore poetry. Her work is published in Poets.org, The Boiler, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, Passages North, & Hobart, & has been featured by The Straits Times, American Banker, The Business Times, the National University of Singapore, & the Center for Fiction. She lives between Brooklyn & Singapore.
