How did you find/hear about FRIEDA?

I walked by, more than five years ago, as it was in construction and preparing to open. I enjoyed the art display that was used to block the large windows so no one could see the construction. One day, when it finally opened, I was enticed by a massive charcoal portrait of eyes which filled the back wall …and I applied to work there.
Party: 840 days (re)connecting generations (March 15, 2018).

What did you think when you walked in for the first time?

It’s the type of place that you walk into and don’t know what to think, you just let it reveal itself to you.

In what ways are you active at FRIEDA?

Although I’m not in Philadelphia now, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and connecting with FRIEDA’S extended family. While living in Amsterdam and Berlin, I have met people from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Germany who are friends and family of FRIEDA patrons!
The 1st phase of this community protect was awarded a prize by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society at the annual Flower Show Decorating Contest! (March 5, 2019).

What is your most memorable moment at FRIEDA?

Every movie, every celebration…every time other community members shared their laughs, joys, tears, wisdom, and experiences. There are so many moments when I shared truly beautiful experiences of life because people felt comfortable enough to connect with other human beings for genuine friendship.

What else do you wish FRIEDA offered?

Hugs for when I’m away and just need some comfort.
Winter afternoon (December 2016).
Mat Hatter Tea Party (March 24, 2019).
FRIEDA Dance (June 21, 2018).

How would you describe FRIEDA to a friend?

Have you ever felt like you were in heaven on earth? Imagine that with amazing brownies, relaxed people enjoying each other’s company, speaking all sorts of languages, and hearing the sound of birds in the back.
Philadelphia Inquirer: "... Along the soaring white walls hang works by local artists, some of whom also wait tables ..." - Nahir Francis and his wire art installation (re)connecting some 200 faces. Nahir Francis "In Light of Faces I + II"  (May-June 2017).

What does FRIEDA mean to you?

It means that good in the world is possible, if you are willing to nurture that good, even if it seems that the rest of the world isn’t ready to do the work with you.
